Monice Aguilar was born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico. She is currently a student at the University of New Mexico, pursuing a degree in the medical field. One of her major passions is writing and interacting with poetry among her community. She enjoys performing spoken word poetry and hopes to compose a short collection of personal poems in the future, that center around the black identity and black female experience.

Darius James is a freshman English major at the University of New Mexico. He moved to New Mexico from Lakewood, Washington to pursue a higher education. Darius has been writing since he was 15 and has cultivated the ambition to pursue a level of mastery in all forms of writing but especially poetry and narrative storytelling.u00a0

Curating the program, J. Gourdin is a spoken word poet, equity instructor, and creative scholar.u00a0Their writing is inspired by vignettes of Black homelife and explores the power of belonging. J is a PhD student at the University of New Mexico bridging their poetic efforts with the field of Sociology.
